The location of the 1964-1965 World’s Fair is just a short uber ride away from my apartment, and the fella and I went to check it out while we were in the area attending World Maker Faire last year. Take a look!
This moment reminded me of Childhood’s End.
The theme of the World’s Fair was “Peace Through Understanding”, and more than 51 million people attended.
The area surrounding the site is maintained as a city park, which makes the whole thing so much weirder. There are all these beautifully maintained pathways, manicured shrubs, flowers, and fountains, and then sprinkled throughout the park these relics are just rusting and falling apart.
The most spectacular and well maintained relic of the fair is this massive sculpture called the Unisphere. It weighs 900,000 pounds and it is breathtaking. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a quick viewing.
I love exploring our city!
